Alaska Rest Period and Lunch Break Laws

Back to Alaska Overtime Law

Employers in Alaska must give break periods of at least 30 minutes to workers between the of ages 14 and 17 who work five or more consecutive hours. Employers are not required to give breaks to workers ages 18 and over. If short breaks are allowed, the employer must compensate this break time, as long as it does not exceed 20 minutes. If the employer offers meal breaks, the employer is not required to pay for the meal period if it lasts more than 20 minutes and the employee does not perform work during this time.
