Connecticut Laws on Last Paychecks, Withholding Wages

Back to Connecticut Overtime Law

Employers must pay their workers in cash or check on a regular payday, which must be established in advance by the employer. An employee can request, in writing, to have their paycheck deposited into their bank account.

Employees who quit or are laid off should be paid their last paycheck on the next regular payday. Fired employees must receive their final paycheck by the next business day.

Employees' wages may not be withheld unless state or federal wage and hour law requires such an action; the employee gave written permission; or the wages are withheld for a medical premium or retirement plan.
