Back to Maryland Overtime Law
Maryland wage and hour law requires employers to keep records for each employee. The file must include the following information about the worker:
- Name
- Address
- Occupation
- Pay rate
- Hours worked per day
- Hours worked per week
- Amount paid each pay period
Wage and hour law in Maryland requires employers to pay their workers at least every two weeks or twice in a month. Some employees, such as certain executive, administrative and professional employees, may be exempt from this wage and hour requirement and may be paid less frequently.
If an employee is terminated, the employer must pay their worker all wage dues by the next regularly scheduled payday.
Employees are required to establish paydays and pay their workers on these scheduled dates, regardless of the following:
- Whether the employee provided their punch card, time sheet or an employer-required document
- Whether the employee quit without notice
- Whether the company received payment from the workers' client
If a payday falls on a holiday, Saturday or Sunday, workers must be paid on the preceding workday.
