Montana Minimum Wage & Overtime Basics

Montana Minimum Wage Law:

  • The minimum wage in Montana is $7.25.
  • The Montana minimum wage is the same as the federal rate.
  • Training wages, meal credits and tip credits are not allowed under Montana minimum wage law.

Montana Overtime Law:

  • Most employees should receive time-and-a-half compensation for hours worked in excess of 40 in a single workweek.
  • Under Montana overtime law, overtime is only paid for hours actually worked. When counting overtime, holiday, sick or vacation hours do not count towards the total hours worked in the week.

Montana Wage and Hour Law: Last Paycheck

Under Montana wage and hour law, terminated employees must receive their last paycheck within four hours or by the end of the workday, whichever comes first. Employees who quit must receive their final wages by the next payday or on the 15th day following separation, whichever comes first.
