Are employees entitled to paystubs?
Yes. Texas wage and hour law requires employers to provide a paystub to each employee detailing their hours worked, pay rate, total amount of pay, deductions and reasons for any deductions.
Should workers receive time-and-a-half compensation when working on a holiday?
Texas wage and hour law does not require premium pay for working holidays. Premium pay is set by individual company policy.
Are employees entitled to meal periods or rest breaks?
Texas wage and hour law does not require employers to provide rest breaks or meal periods. However, federal wage and hour law states that if breaks of 20 minutes or less are provided, they must be compensated. Meal breaks lasting 30 minutes do not have to be paid as long as the worker is completely relieved of their job duties.
Are workers entitled to vacation pay?
Texas wage and hour law does not require employers to offer fringe benefits, including vacation pay. However, if an employer has written policy regarding vacation pay, they must follow it.
What is the minimum wage in Texas?
The Texas minimum wage is $7.25 per hour, effective July 24, 2009.
